One Way Trip to Mars is a Rock Opera written by Peter Blachly and Johannah Harkness. Set in 2033, the story follows two astronauts, Cassandra and her husband Paolo, who are caught in the turmoil as NASA makes a desperate attempt to establish a colony on Mars while the earth descends into environmental chaos and nuclear war. Paolo is first sent alone to set up the infrastructure for a human colony, but when communication links go down, NASA sends Cassandra to join him. During the months of space travel, she doesn’t know if he is still alive, and he doesn’t know she’s coming. This multi-media concert performance features local performers on stage with a backdrop of video imagery behind them.
